Ready to Launch

Today’s Launchable is a local audio tour business

A platform that lets people explore a city through professionally narrated, self-guided walking tours.

Instead of following a crowded tour group, visitors simply press play and discover hidden stories, local history, restaurants, architecture, and neighborhoods at their own pace.

Quick Snapshot

Startup Cost

Around $100–$500 if you’re creating the tours yourself. Most of the investment is your time researching, writing, and recording.

Can Be Started In

One weekend for your first tour.

Best For

History lovers, great storytellers, travelers, photographers, tour guides, or anyone who enjoys discovering the stories hidden around their city.

Potential Income

Tours can sell for $10–$40 each. Build several tours in one city—or expand into multiple cities—and each new tour becomes another digital product that can continue generating sales over time.

Let’s Talk About It

Every city has stories.

Most people just walk past them.

That’s what I love about this business.

A hundred people might pass the same building in a day without realizing it was once a famous hotel, an old train station, or the place where something unforgettable happened.

An audio tour slows people down just enough to notice.

You’re not leading a group through the city.

You’re simply helping people experience it with fresh eyes.

And unlike traditional walking tours, your customers can start whenever they want, pause for coffee, spend an extra hour in a museum, or skip ahead if something catches their attention.

It’s sightseeing without a schedule.

I think that’s why this idea feels so timeless.

First Things First

If I were launching this today, here’s exactly what I’d do.

Pick one city you already know

Don’t try to build tours for five cities.

Start with one.

Even better if it’s somewhere you genuinely enjoy exploring.

The best tours feel like recommendations from a local, not facts copied from a history book.

Create one unforgettable route

Aim for 8–12 stops within walking distance.

Mix well-known landmarks with places most visitors would never notice on their own.

The hidden gems are usually what people remember.

Write for listening, not reading

Imagine you’re walking beside someone.

Keep each stop around 60–90 seconds.

Tell stories.

Ask questions.

Share interesting details.

Avoid sounding like a museum plaque.

Record your first tour

A quiet room and a decent microphone are enough to start.

Speak naturally.

If you wouldn’t say it while walking beside someone, rewrite it.

Add your local recommendations

At the end of the tour, include:

  • Your favorite coffee shop.

  • A great lunch spot.

  • A bookstore.

  • A local bakery.

  • A scenic place to end the walk.

Those recommendations make the experience feel personal.

Next Up

Now it’s time to get your first customers.

Create a simple Google Business Profile.

Reach out to local hotels, visitor centers, Airbnb hosts, and boutique vacation rentals.

Offer them a QR code guests can scan to purchase the tour.

Share short clips on TikTok and Instagram that begin with:

“Most people walk past this building every day without knowing…”

Curiosity is your best marketing.

Then ask your first customers for reviews.

A handful of thoughtful reviews can go a long way in building trust.
